Free Wi-Fi for 2nd European Games Minsk 2019

MINSK, 10 May (BelTA) – Free Internet access via the Wi-Fi technology will be available at sites of the 2nd European Games in Minsk. Belarusian Communications and Informatization Minister Sergei Popkov made the relevant statement in BelTA’s press center on 10 May.

According to the source, free Wi-Fi will be made available at sport facilities, hotels, and the Student Village in Dzerzhinskogo Avenue.

Plans have been made to improve 3G and 4G coverage to ensure uninterrupted communication along major streets.

The European Olympic Committees demand a lot from the infrastructure and the quality of communication during sport events. Belarus is putting serious efforts into the organization of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019. Information and communication technology specialists have already studied the experience of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Russia’s experience of organizing the world football championship will be examined as well. “These are very serious preparation tasks. Apart from ensuring the ability to communicate we have to take care of security and cyber security,” said Sergei Popkov.

The 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 are scheduled to take place in the Belarusian capital city on 21-30 June 2019. The Games will feature 15 sports. As many as 206 medal events will be held in 23 sport disciplines. The competitions will take place at 12 sport venues. The Games are expected to attract about 4,000 athletes, 2,000 coaches and other representatives of official delegations from 50 European national Olympic committees. Besides, Belarus will welcome about 650 international and 410 national sport judges, about 1,000 representatives of foreign mass media, heads of European sport federations and agencies, workers of the EOC headquarters, heads of European NOCs, and high-rankling officials from a number of countries.
