City information points hailed as popular, useful during Minsk European Games

MINSK, 9 July (BelTA) - About 132,000 people used the services of the city information points during the 2nd European Games, deputy head of sport and sport and tourism at the Minsk City Hall Svetlana Demeshko told the media, BelTA has learned.

“We had five information centers during the games: at railway stations, the airport and other places. There were 20 city information points near competition venues (organized jointly with the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee), landmarks, and in popular public places. They provided services to about 132,000 people,” Svetlana Demeshko noted.

Twelve tours were held for representatives of foreign mass media and travel companies. The Belarusian capital organized 70 excursion routes, 12 of them were designed especially for the 2nd European Games. “Some tours organized with the assistance of transport service proved popular. Bus services No. 1 and No. 100 were popular during the games. So were red and yellow sightseeing double-decker buses and a retro car humming along the streets of the city,” she informed.

The 2nd European Games featured competitions in 15 sports. Eight of them were held as qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. A total of 12 sports sites were used for the games, the biggest of which are Dinamo Stadium, Minsk Arena, Chizhovka Arena, and Minsk Sports Palace.

Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries competed in 200 medal events. Russia topped the medal standings with 109 medals. Belarus placed second with 69. This is the biggest success of Belarusian athletes in international competitions. representatives of 44 countries won medals at the 2nd European Games.
