MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) - Sports venues, the Athletes Village, the entire infrastructure of Minsk, and volunteers are fully prepared for the 2nd European Games, Chairman of the Coordination Commission of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) for Minsk 2019 Spyros Capralos told the media, BelTA has learned.

Spyros Capralos said that he has visited Minsk a lot in recent years and noticed how the sports venues and the Athletes Village have transformed. “We see that a huge amount of work has been done, and we are confident that the upcoming games will be beautiful. Already at the airport, you feel that the city lives by the games and while you move towards the downtown this feeling intensifies. Even those who are in Minsk for the first time will easily find the way to any facility navigating by very convenient pointers with the games logo,” Spyros Capralos said.

Spyros Capralos highlighted the Athletes Village which is already housing representatives of 50 European countries. There is an amazing atmosphere. Athletes can communicate with each other, make new friends from other countries. Athletes from different sports and countries emphasize that the organizers have prepared a great menu and everyone can find the dishes to their taste.

Belarus has hosted highest-level tournaments before but this is the first time that the country is hosting a forum where athletes will compete in 15 sports. Spyros Capralos believes that this sporting event will be a grandiose celebration and will be remembered by all participants. At the same time he noted that after the games all sports facilities and the Athletes Village will remain at the disposal of Belarusian citizens and will be used for sports.

The opening ceremony will be held at Dinamo Stadium on 21 June. The stadium will also host athletics competitions and the closing ceremony on 30 June.
Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 200 medal events in15 sports.
