Belarus promises easy travel across its border during European Games

MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) – Belarus will provide lanes for easy border-crossing during the 2nd European Games 2019, BelTA learned from Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus Yuri Senko.

“The preparation of border checkpoints is in full swing, including the organization of separate lanes for simplified border-crossing procedures. We are also upgrading the facilities to ensure security during the games and are testing the technologies for simplified import of goods intended for the use during the games,” Yuri Senko said.

Six border checkpoints will get new video surveillance systems. Detectors of narcotic substances and explosives, personal video recorders, and radio communication equipment have already been purchased.

A simplified procedure for customs declaration will be applied for the temporary import of transport for personal use to the Eurasian Economic Union. It will be sufficient to present vehicle registration documents.

Customs workers are currently undergoing additional English language course. Phrasebooks with related terms in different languages have been compiled for this purpose. Volunteers will be helping within the customs control zones. Special booklets and leaflets containing the customs border crossing rules will be distributed among those entering the country. A 24-hour hotline will also be available for those who need help.

“The main task for the customs agencies is to ensure safe border crossing for athletes, fans, guests and to provide timely registration of their goods. We also keep in mind services necessary to provide comfortable stay for people at the border checkpoints. We have already gained necessary experience during the IIHF World Championship, which our country hosted in 2014, and also during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia,” Yuri Senko said.
