Belarus’ leading mass media discuss preparations for Minsk European Games

MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) – Journalists of the Belarusian leading mass media outlets took stock of the preparations for the 2nd European Games at a meeting with Belarus First Deputy Information Minister Pavel Lyogky and Manager for Communication, PR and Mass Media of the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee (MEGOC) Aleksei Bogdanovich on 14 February, BelTA has learned.

Aleksei Bogdanovich provided detailed information about the organization of the work of the press centers, mixed zones, and transport during the competitions. Joint projects as part of the preparations for the 2nd European Games were discussed as well. The Flame of Peace torch relay will be one of such events. According to Aleksei Bogdanovich, the route of the relay and the torchbearer uniform will be presented in early April. The flame of the 2nd European Games will be lit in Rome on 3 May. Then it will be taken across a number of countries and raised to Mont Blanc. In Belarus, the torch relay will first arrive in Brest. The MEGOC representative invited the mass media to provide a wide coverage of the test tournaments held ahead of the upcoming sport forum. The nearest of them, sambo competitions, is due to take place at the Sports Palace on 22-23 February.

Pavel Lyogky praised the mass media’s balanced approach to covering the preparations for the games.

The 2nd European Games will take place in Minsk on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 199 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in eight sports will be qualifiers for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
