Belarus' customs to secure safe and fast border crossing during Second European Games

MINSK, 25 January (BelTA) – The Belarusian customs bodies will secure safe and fast border crossing during the Second European Games, Chairman of the State Customs Committee Yuri Senko told the media on 25 January, BelTA has learned.

“Taking into account the tasks our country has ahead of the organization of the Second European Games in 2019, and the IIHF World Championship in 2021 together with Latvia, we have already been undertaking necessary measures to improve the security of borders, unhampered border crossing, speedy customs clearance of goods and vehicles,” Yuri Senko said.

According to him, a joint inspection of the infrastructure of border checkpoints ahead of the games was held in 2017. “We must be ready. Today we have everything necessary to acomodate the flow we have today. The need for technical equipment will increase, however, during the period of mass events. We are ready to purchase the necessary equipment, including narcotics and explosives detection equipment, personal video recorders, information retrieval terminals, radio communication facilities,” Yuri Senko said. There are also plans to modernize the present CCTV systems.

During the games, a simplified customs clearance procedure for will be applied for the temporary importation of vehicles for personal use into the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union. “It will be sufficient to provide the registration certificate of the vehicle. The same was done during the 2014 IIHF World Championship in Minsk,” Yuri Senko said.
