Belarus’ Aleh Yurenia third in canoe sprint at 2nd European Games

MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – Belarus’ Aleh Yurenia clinched bronze in the Men's K1 1000m at the 2nd European Games on 26 June, BelTA has learned.

Aleh Yurenia finished +1.355 second behind the frontrunner. Hungary’s Balint Kopasz won gold. Fernando Pimenta of Portugal came second.

This season Aleh Yurenia lost to Fernando Pimenta in the final of this medal event at the 2019 ICF Canoe Sprint & Paracanoe World Cup in Poznan, Poland.

On 26-27 June, 350 athletes will compete for 16 medal sets in the Regatta Course in Zaslavl.

Yurenia: It is a great responsibility to perform in front of the home crowd

MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – Every heat at the home regatta course is a great responsibility, Aleh Yurenia, the Men's K1 1000m bronze medalist, told the media, BelTA has learned.

“I am happy with my performance. I do not get on the podium in the K1 200m events very often. I needed to show my best. Every heat on the home ground is a great responsibility. Fans are waiting for victories, medals and the athletes cannot disappoint their fans,” the athlete said.

In his words, it was possible to make it a silver medal. “The start was fast if we compare it with all the previous heats this season. With the balanced speed throughout the distance, it would have been possible to finish second. However, bronze is quite a success in such a company of strong rivals,” Aleh Yurenia stressed.

The Belarusian canoeist won bronze in the first medal heat of the canoe sprint competitions at the 2nd European Games. Later, Belarusian Volha Khudzenka and Maryna Litvinchuk won the Women’s K2 500m gold at the Zaslavl Regatta Course.
