Uzbekistan shows interest in BelNPP construction practices

MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) - Uzbekistan is interested in Belarus’ best practices of NPP construction, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Belarus Rakhmatulla Nazarov said as he met with Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich on 23 April, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry.

The parties discussed opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector. Special attention was paid to nuclear energy. Uzbekistan plans to build its own nuclear power plant. “Belarus’ experience is of interest to us. This is one of the areas where we could develop our interaction,” the ambassador said.

According to Viktor Karankevich, the Belarusian nuclear power plant is already working for the country's economy and bringing a tangible effect. “Our specialists have developed certain competencies not only in terms of construction, but also in the assembly and installation of equipment, commissioning operations,” he said. “The commissioning of BelNPP has given an impetus to the development of areas related to nuclear power, including electric transportation. Zhodino and Shklov have been chosen for the projects to introduce electric public transport. Belarus is ready to share its best practices.”

The working meeting also focused on the possibilities of partnership between Belarus and Uzbekistan on the design and construction of power grid infrastructure facilities. They discussed the potential of organizations of the gas and peat industries in Belarus.

The parties reaffirmed their interest in mutually beneficial cooperation and noted the positive dynamics of trade growth between the countries. It was emphasized that the meeting of the heads of state, which took place in February 2024, contributed to the strengthening of bilateral relations and the implementation of new joint projects.
