MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) - Since its commissioning, the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP) has generated a total of approximately 55 billion kWh of electricity, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry.
The BelNPP is operating for the benefit of the economy and delivering tangible results. This has enabled the resolution of major goals, including Belarus’ complete elimination of electricity imports.
The country’s dependence on imported natural gas has been reduced, the press service said. “Since the first BelNPP unit was connected to the unified energy grid (3 November 2020), the plant has generated a total of about 55 billion kWh of electricity, which has allowed for the replacement of approximately 15 billion cubic meters of natural gas,” the ministry reported.
The ministry also stressed the positive environmental impact. Thanks to the BelNPP’s operation, greenhouse gas emissions have been reduced by more than 27 million tonnes.
