Survey reveals why foreign patients opt for treatment in Belarus

Survey reveals why foreign patients opt for treatment in Belarus

MINSK, 29 August (BelTA) – Overseas patients come to Belarus for treatment because of the quality of medical services, founder of the Med Travel Belarus medical assistance company, managing partner of the KANO clinics network Vladislav Androsov, told reporters, BelTA has learned.

“We decided to conduct research into the image of Belarusian medicine abroad. We wanted to find out why foreign patients choose Belarus. We posted a question on our web resources: “Why do you choose Belarusian medicine – for its quality or low price?”. The opinion poll lasted for a month,” Vladislav Androsov said.

The survey revealed the following: 3,130 Russians answered that they go to Belarus for quality and 1,850 said that price is the reason. Patients from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Israel mostly said that they opt for Belarus because of quality.

According to the chief of the medical assistance company, this information should push market players to revise their strategies of promoting Belarusian medical tourism abroad. A series of new surveys will be launched on 29 August. Foreigners will be asked whether they prefer to receive treatment at Belarusian clinics or to undergo recuperation at health farms.

According to Vladislav Androsov, Belarus is turning into a medical tourism hub in Eastern Europe. The most popular services are consultations, examinations and treatment (including surgeries), and dental prosthesis.

Every year over 150,000 foreign nationals seek medical assistance in Belarus. This shapes a positive image of the Belarusian healthcare.

Outbound medical tourism is not very common in Belarus, Vladislav Androsov believes. “The government provides the necessary medical assistance, so that people will not have to go abroad,” he said.
