Sudan invited to assemble Belarusian vehicles

MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – Belarus invites Sudan to set up a plant to assemble tractors, trucks and farm machines, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sudan to Belarus Nural-Dayem Hamad Al-Neil on 6 December, BelTA has learned.

The prospects for setting up such an assembly plant were discussed during the visit of the Belarusian speaker to Sudan in 2017. The project received support from business. Its implementation will bring mutual benefits. Sudan will become a springboard for Belarus to enter the African market, Vladimir Andreichenko stressed.

According to the speaker, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko visited Sudan in 2017. The results of the negotiations created a good basis for cooperation in mechanical engineering, agriculture, mining, science, and education. The MPs are determined to provide all possible assistance to further the contacts. “Constructive political relations should contribute to concrete results in trade and economy,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.

Vladimir Andreichenko noted that the parties have already taken some steps in this direction. A consignment of BELARUS tractors was sent to Sudan in 2018. An agreement was reached to supply 17 Belarusian granaries worth about €70 million to Sudan.

During the meeting the parties discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation. The two countries are working on new joint projects in infrastructure, the financial sector, food processing. “Sudan can be a strategic partner for Belarus in Africa,” the Ambassador said.

Belarus and Sudan maintain an active inter-parliamentary dialogue. The legal framework includes the memorandum of understanding and cooperation signed between the National Assembly of Belarus and the Sudanese National Assembly in August 2017.
