Sri Lankan businessmen show interest in Belarusian equipment, pharmaceuticals, metallurgy

MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) - Expansion of trade and economic cooperation was discussed during a working visit of Belarusian Ambassador to India with concurrent accreditation to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal Andrei Rzheussky to Sri Lanka, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in India.
The Belarusian diplomat held a meeting with Sri Lanka MP, Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Wijeyadasa Rajapakse and Additional Commissioner of Prisons Chandana Ekanayake on 1 February.
“The parties confirmed their readiness to expand interaction in rendering legal assistance to the citizens in Belarus and Sri Lanka, in the development and updating of the relevant legal framework. They discussed the development of parliamentary relations, including the resumption of the friendship group with Belarus in the Sri Lankan Parliament,” the embassy said.
After meetings at the Ministry of Justice, the ambassador, accompanied by the minister, paid a visit to the Welikada Female Prison, where he spoke with the prison management and Belarusian female prisoners about their stay in the penitentiary institution. The prisoners were given basic necessities.
Issues to expand trade and economic cooperation were discussed at a meeting with representatives of Sri Lankan business in the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The Belarusian embassy in India presented the Belarusian export potential, its investment climate and opportunities for joint projects in Belarus. The meeting was attended by more than 30 representatives of large, medium and small businesses of Sri Lanka.
“During an interactive session between Andrei Rzheussky and Sri Lankan businessmen Sri Lankan representatives expressed interest in Belarusian agricultural, road-building machinery, products of the food, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries, and the metallurgical complex. Sri Lankan representatives were also interested in expanding cooperation in tourism,” the diplomatic mission said.
The Belgospishcheprom confectionery was presented at the business negotiations in the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
