Six Belarusian food companies seek right to export to European Union

MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – Six Belarusian food industry companies have submitted applications to obtain the right to export their products to the European Union, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Igor Brylo before the seminar on food export to the European Union on 10 July.

The deputy agriculture and food minister said: “So far five Belarusian dairy companies and one fish company – Santa Bremor – have been authorized to export their products to the European Union. About six companies have submitted the relevant applications.”

The European Union’s share in Belarus’ total food export is small. “Last year we shipped $140 million worth of products to the European Union. Our main EU partners are Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, and Germany. Certainly, the European market is interesting for us. Today together with Belarusian ambassadors to European nations we are going to discuss all the details, peculiarities, and hiccups involved in the delivery of our products to the European Union. Certification is one of the important matters. We are trying to fix it. A dialogue is in progress,” said the deputy agriculture and food minister.

Asked about plans to synchronize the Belarusian and European system for tracking animal products, Igor Brylo said that, in his opinion, it is a matter of distant future. “If Belarusian food is shipped smoothly to the European Union and we need to sync the systems, the matter will be taken care of,” he added.
