Select Belarusian agrotowns to become ‘villages of the future’

MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) – A number of Belarusian agrotowns and towns have been selected to implement pilot projects for creating villages of the future, BelTA learned from Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Rusy during the joint session of both chambers of the parliament on 30 November.

Standard layouts for the villages of the future have been prepared. Every oblast will have a number of agrotowns and towns where the pilot projects will be implemented. “I think we will wrap up the legal part of it in 2018,” noted the official.

According to the source, the villages of the future will stem from agrotowns. Mikhail Rusy mentioned the Vertelishki agrotown and the Kopys village as an example of what villages of the future should aspire for.

Mikhail Rusy specified that the Architecture and Construction Ministry is busy developing the concept of the project. He encouraged Belarusians living in rural areas to more actively use information technologies. “We and Belagroprombank are now putting together a program on setting up education centers where people could learn how to pay their utility bills online among other things. Information technologies are impossible to live without,” he stressed.

Speaking about adjustments to the human resources policy and labor incentives in agriculture, Mikhail Rusy touched upon salaries among other things. He said that salaries in Belarusian agriculture are supposed to average at Br700 in December 2017 thanks to optimized workforce numbers and the achievement of the intended agricultural output figures.
