Russia’s top ten importers of Belarusian products named

MOSCOW, 23 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian Embassy in Russia has uploaded a list of top importers of Belarusian products among Russian regions to its website, BelTA has learned.

“In 2019, the top ten regions in terms of import of Belarusian products included Moscow Oblast, the city of Moscow, Smolensk Oblast, the city of Saint Petersburg, Bryansk Oblast, the Republic of Tatarstan, Kemerovo Oblast, Kaliningrad Oblast, Leningrad Oblast, and Sverdlovsk Oblast. They accounted for 70.8% of Belarus’ export to Russia,” the embassy noted.

The list of top ten Russian exporters to Belarus in 2019 featured Tyumen Oblast, Smolensk Oblast, Moscow Oblast, the city of Moscow, the Republic of Tatarstan, the city of Saint Petersburg, Perm Krai, the Republic of Bashkortostan, and Novosibirsk Oblast. They accounted for 73.4% of Belarus’ import from Russia.

“Belarus reported an increase in export to 49 federal subjects of Russia,” the embassy said.

Cooperation between Belarus and Russia’s federal subjects is regulated by agreements on cooperation in trade, economy, science, technology, and culture (78 agreements with 71 Russian regions). Around 400 cooperation agreements were signed between Belarusian regions, the city of Minsk and Russia’s federal subjects as well as between Belarusian districts and cities and Russian municipal divisions.

“In order to boost Belarus’ export to the Russian market, Belarus takes measures to advance interregional cooperation,” the embassy stressed. “In 2019, Belarusian delegations paid 108 visits to Russian regions, and the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia held 28 meetings with senior officials of Russia’s federal subjects. Belarus hosted 71 delegations from Russian regions, including seven delegations led by governors. As many as 263 visits of delegations of Belarusian business circles to Russia and 126 visits of representatives of Russian business to Belarus were organized in 2019,” the embassy added.

As many as 29 sessions of bilateral working groups (business councils) with Russia’s federal subjects took place in 2019. Belarusian regions signed cooperation agreements with 47 Russian regions. Belarusian organizations took part in 220 trade fairs, 269 exhibitions, forums, and presentations held in Russia.
