Russia’s Mordovia eager to team up with Belarus to tap into new markets

Russia’s Mordovia eager to team up with Belarus to tap into new markets

MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) – We are eager to advance cooperation with Belarusian partners in order to tap new markets together, Head of the Republic of Mordovia of the Russian Federation Artem Zdunov told the media following a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk on 20 October, BelTA has learned.

"We reviewed, first and foremost, the progress in the fulfillment of the agreements reached two years ago. During this time, we have made significant progress. This includes progress in foreign trade. But, most importantly, it is the cooperation projects that Aleksandr Lukashenko highlighted last time. We must have them. Our main principle is to sell together. We must offer maintenance. If we supply something to each other, there must be maintenance. And there must be strong cooperation projects through which we can tap the neighboring markets,” Artem Zdunov said.

He stated that one such project is already being implemented in railcar manufacturing: “Over these two years, we have become leaders in terms of freight railway transport. We produce innovative isothermal railcars (thermos cars). We do this together with our Belarusian partners.”

Among the important ones, Artem Zdunov named projects in the cable industry. "Our joint 110 kV and 220 kV cable project generated particular interest. This is an exclusive innovative project where we fully utilize Belarusian polyethylene. We have already conducted industrial tests and are proceeding with certification. This project is very important for the entire market. Because there are no other manufacturers,” the head of Mordovia emphasized.

Cooperation with the Brest Electric Lamp Plant is also promising, he said. The plant is already purchasing bulbs of various modifications from Mordovia. “We know that it can triple its capacity and fully supply the Belarusian market. If we establish a joint production in Brest, we will have a clear view of the market. This is technological sovereignty. But we can also sell internationally,” Artem Zdunov stated.

Another interesting area for cooperation is pharmaceutics: "We talked about new products, new drugs, cancer, obesity, and diabetes treatments. The issue here is certification. Belarus has very strict GOST standards and stringent requirements. This is right because it concerns people's health. We agreed to work through joint research so that these drugs can be used here and beyond. Specialists, particularly the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences, are helping us a great deal in this regard.”

Artem Zdunov informed that the Mordovian delegation also toured the Atlant plant and expressed interest in continuing cooperation. "They offered aluminum tubes and other innovative solutions. We are interested in working with this enterprise. The product quality is very high," he noted.
