MOGILEV, 31 January (BelTA) – Russia’s Leningrad Oblast is showing interest in the Belarusian farming equipment and also the country’s best practices in crop production and cattle breeding. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the eighth joint commission on cooperation between Belarus and Russia’s Leningrad Oblast in Mogilev on 30 January, BelTA has learned.

Leningrad Oblast Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Malashchenko stated that Belarus and Leningrad Oblast have longstanding friendly relations. The parties have been successfully cooperating in trade, economy, social sector, humanitarian affairs, agriculture, construction, culture and other areas. “We are interested in buying Belarusian agricultural machinery, especially tractors. Crop and livestock farming can become another area of cooperation. Belarus has gained a lot of experience in the field, which our region can adopt,” Oleg Malashchenko said.

The Russian region is also interested in the Belarusian logging equipment and attracting construction specialists. It is also important to develop cultural exchange.

Leningrad Oblast and Mogilev Oblast enjoy sustainable cooperation. “The relations between Mogilev Oblast and Leningrad Oblast are vibrant,” said Mogilev Oblast Governor Leonid Zayats. “We supply Mogilevkhimvolokno products, cement, meat and dairy products, participate in joint efforts to replace elevator equipment in the Russian region. In January-November 2019, foreign trade between business entities amounted to $65 million, up 3.4%. Exports reached almost $57 million, imports made up some $9 million.”

The participants in the meeting reviewed performance in 2019 and outlined the points of interaction for the current year and the near future.

On 31 January, the Russian delegation is set to visit major enterprises of Mogilev Oblast. These are Mogilevliftmash, Bykhov Canning and Vegetable Drying Plant, Bobruiskagromash and Bobruisk Biotechnology Plant.
