Russian specialists speak highly of Belarusian Antarctic module design

MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) – Russian specialists speak highly of the design of the first module of the Belarusian Antarctic station, BelTA learned from Alexei Gaidashov, leader of the eighth Belarusian Antarctic expedition, on 10 June.

“Russians helped us ship and install the platform. They were curious about the simplicity of the design and the comparative ease of assembling the module of the Belarusian Antarctic station. Permanent construction methods are primarily used in Antarctica at present, requiring the delivery of building structures and machines at a great financial cost. Our design is cheaper and simpler to assemble. In other words, the sections are manually assembled to make a module,” said Alexei Gaidashov.

In his words, this summer representatives of the Russian Antarctic expedition intend to visit the enterprise that makes Belarusian modules for the sake of considering signing delivery contracts. “Russia has rather serious plans for the next four years — the construction of stationary field camps in Antarctica. Our variant suits them by many parameters. They are ready to work with the Belarusian manufacturer,” said the scientist.
