Russian Skolkovo companies interested in joint ventures with Belarusian developers

MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) – Resident companies of the Russian innovative center Skolkovo are interested in setting up joint ventures together with developers from Belarus for the sake of promoting innovative ideas. The relevant statement was made by Alexander Okunev, head of the division for regional policy and interaction with CIS development institutions of the Russian innovative center Skolkovo, during the opening ceremony of the Smart Patent 2016 fair on 30 November, BelTA has learned.

According to Alexander Okunev, about one third of the Skolkovo resident companies tightly cooperate with Belarusian scientists and the Minsk city technopark. “Cooperation has been developing for four years. We consider the possibility of promoting our products onto your market in addition to the implementation of joint projects,” he remarked.

Cooperation for commercializing intellectual property is another promising avenue. A number of startup tours of Russian Skolkovo have been held in Minsk already. The startup tours have become a new mechanism for supporting new startups.

For the Smart Patent 2016 fair the Skolkovo residents prepared eight proposals in the area of healthcare and biotechnologies. One project deals with information technologies. In particular, the Biomed cluster presented innovative medications and medical diagnostics products. Piligrim Company brought computer software that allows producing real world images using 3D models. The imagery is processed later on and the real world picture is mixed with virtual elements. Such technologies are widely used in tourism industry to demonstrate specimens of architecture.

Skolkovo Foundation is the agency in charge of creating the innovative center Skolkovo. As many as 1,500 companies are its residents now. The innovative center Skolkovo focuses on energy saving, nuclear technologies, outer space and telecommunication technologies, biomedical technologies, and computer technologies. The center is supposed to foster R&D and commercialize the results.
