GRODNO, 21 March (BelTA) – Freight trains now regularly travel from China to Europe via Grodno, representatives of the Grodno regional branch of the Belarusian customs service told BelTA.

The first train of the kind was processed by the Grodno regional branch of the Belarusian customs service on 2 August 2017. The trains have to reach the customs clearance railway station Bruzgi-1 where containers are transshipped. Over 800 containers have been transported since then. China sells to Europe such products as computers and gets cars, components and parts of automobiles in return.

The way of transportation has proved its worth. This is why a regular service was launched in March 2018. The trains will cross Grodno on a weekly basis. A train takes 5-6 days to reach Grodno all the way from China.

The source underlined that the available favorable conditions for freight transportation via Belarus positively influence traffic flows and the country’s transit appeal as a whole.
