Prime minister: Orsha District enterprises on the mend

ORSHA, 18 May (BelTA) – The situation at enterprises in Orsha District has improved. Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov made the statement during a working trip to Vitebsk Oblast on 18 May, BelTA has learned.

Andrei Kobyakov said: “The plan to develop Orsha District is getting implemented. A number of successful decisions have been made to improve the situation at the local enterprises. There are enterprises, which demonstrate massive improvements, and there are those, which are experiencing problems, but a different kind, problems arising from scaling up their operation. Time is needed to resolve these problems but not too much time. There is a program for the period till 2020. There are control figures. By 2020 Orsha District should reach development figures above Vitebsk Oblast’s average. We are now working to make it happen.”

The prime minister visited the Orsha-based machine tools factory Krasny Borets where he was informed about the development and production of sophisticated science-intensive machine tools. The company now exports more machine tools of this kind, Andrei Kobyakov was told.

As Andrei Kobyakov visited Orsha Instrument Factory, progress in preparing the investment project to start manufacturing modern metal-cutting and auxiliary tools using innovative technological processes was discussed. The effectiveness of the measures taken to normalize the company’s work and secure lossless operation was reviewed. The company has undergone some reconstruction. A project to modernize the available equipment is being implemented. The machine tools are being renewed and made part of the technological chain, said Andrei Kobyakov. “There are orders, floating assets, conditions for work but there are sometimes problems with the lack of specialists with the necessary qualifications, specialists, who could make products of the required quality and who could demonstrate the required labor productivity. Serious efforts should be put into it,” he said.

During the trip the prime minister also met with heads of other Orsha District companies. Ways to improve the performance of Orshaagroprommash, Automatic Control Equipment Plant, Legmash Company, Tekhnika Svyazi, Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant, and Orsha Stroytrest No.18 were discussed. Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov said: “We held a conference in late May 2017. Approaches to every enterprise were determined. In Q1 2018 the industrial output growth rate reached 101.9%. All the companies except for Automatic Control Equipment Plant have worked out long-term development strategies and are carrying out investment projects. A lot has been done to put things into order at the enterprises. A number of decisions have been taken to improve the financial state of individual enterprises. Net profit has been secured by Legmash Company, Tekhnika Svyazi, and the Orshastroymaterialy branch of OAO Belarusian Cement Plant. As far as Legmash Company is concerned, it has good investment projects together with the steel mill BMZ in the oil industry and a project with Czechia. We believe the company is developing in the right direction.”

The prime minister pointed out that the situation at Tekhnika Svyazi Company had been improved noticeably. “Output figures are doubled in comparison with last year. We may expect the growth rate to last into the next year. A very good start has been secured,” he stressed.

The state of affairs at Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant was also discussed. “We know the difficulties but there are ways to resolve problems. They are now actively seeking orders, proposals are available. They also take care of the workforce,” said Andrei Kobyakov.

The prime minister also visited Orsha Meat-Packing Plant and Orsha Bread Products Company. Proposals made by the working group in charge of stabilizing the financial and economic state and developing manufacturing cooperation and integration structures in Vitebsk Oblast agribusiness were also discussed.
