Potash development projects worth over $3bn underway in Belarus

MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – The investment projects to develop potash deposits in Belarus are estimated at more than $3 billion, Sergei Mamchik, the director of the geology department at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Protection, said in a press conference at BelTA’s press center on 1 February.

“Investment projects to boost potash production worth more than $3 billion are currently underway. Among them are the projects to develop the Petrikov potash salt deposit (Belaruskali) and the new sections of the Starobin deposit (Slavkali). The latter company has already completed the exploration works and is launching a project to build a mining enterprise,” Sergei Mamchik said.

He added that the potash salt reserves in Belarus are estimated to last many decades. About 7.3 billion tonnes of raw salt is ready for industrial development. Belarus produces some 45-50 million tonnes of raw potash salt annually.
