Port of Riga ready to provide most favorable conditions for Belarusian exporters
Riga Free Port

MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) – Riga Free Port is ready to provide area to locate productions and logistics infrastructure for Belarusian companies-exporters at most favorable conditions, BelTA learned from the port.

“First of all the matter pertains to the shipment of general cargo, which is of high interest to mid-sized business, woodworking products, grain, mineral fertilizers. Keeping in mind the development of relations between Belarus and Latvia, we are ready to provide new opportunities to Belarusian exporters at the most favorable tariffs,” the administration of the port said. The location of the port in the Free Economic Zone allows cargo companies to reduce customs, registration and tax expenses through preferences.

According to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Latvia Vasily Markovich, at the moment, despite the negative trends in the world market caused by various factors, the transport and transit sector remains the strategic area of the Belarusian-Latvian cooperation. “Latvia is an important trade partner of Belarus, as well as a major transport and transit corridor for Belarusian exports, which is based on products of timber and wood processing industry, oil products and petrochemicals. The representatives of the Latvian Ministry of Transport, Latvian ports and railway administration comprehensively support the development of bilateral relations. This helps to curb the decline in exports and transit of goods amid a significantly reduced demand for products worlwide,” said the diplomat.

The head of the diplomatic mission stressed that amid the growing regional competition for cargo and the need to diversify cargo flows, Belarusian exporters are interested in economically advantageous routes to third countries, including through the Latvian transit corridor. “Long-term cooperation conditions, optimal and beneficial tariffs for cargo transit are important for Belarus, while the Riga Free Port administration, in turn, offers Belarusian exporters special conditions of cooperation,” said Vasily Markovich.
