PM: The use of cryptocurrency in Belarus' internal business not on agenda

ALMATY, 2 February (BelTA) - The use of cryptocurrency in internal business is not on Belarus’ agenda for now, Belarus’ Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said at a plenary session of the international forum Digital Agenda in the Era of Globalization held in Almaty on 2 February, BelTA informs.

Andrei Kobyakov stated that with the adoption of Decree No. 8 "On the Development of Digital Economy” Belarus has regulated a number of issues related to the use of cryptocurrency. This path is followed, for example, by Japan, some Swiss cantons.

“We do not consider the use of cryptocurrency in our internal turnover at the moment. This issue is not on the current agenda. We have just regulated the relations in regard to the main instruments, such as the blockchain technology, mining, and the use of cryptocurrencies. I would like to emphasize, however, that we are doing this within the framework of the regulatory platform, which is the Hi-Tech Park. If it works well there, we will think how to implement the novelties in our domestic market,” the prime minister said.

Andrei Kobyakov called upon the EAEU countries to work together in the field of digitalization. “This market is transboundary and global. In order to get a good synergetic effect, I think we need to move further together, build sectoral and intersectoral systems,” he said.

The purpose of the forum Digital Agenda in the Era of Globalization is to promote the EAEU region in global digitalization, strengthen partnership in this area among the participating countries. The main topic of the discussions is the integration of information systems of the EAEU states. The plenary session is attended by the prime ministers of the CIS countries, the Chairman of the EEC Board and international experts. The program of the forum also includes thematic sessions "Innovations and Technological Entrepreneurship", "EAEU Digital Agenda: Initiatives and Projects", "Industrial Digitalization (Industry 4.0)", "Digital Transformation of Agriculture in the EAEU".

Attending the forum are the prime ministers of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, the official delegations of Azerbaijan and Tajikistan, and also representatives of big international IT companies.
