PM: Nothing impedes Nezhinsky factory to be commissioned in time

LYUBAN DISTRICT, 1 April (BelTA) – There are no obstacles to commission the Nezhinsky potash mining and processing factory on schedule, Belarus’ Prime Minister Sergei Rumas told the media as he visited the construction site of the factory on 30 March, BelTA has learned.

This one of Belarus’ biggest investment projects is implemented by Slavkali. The purpose of the Belarusian head of government’s visit to the construction site was to evaluate the progress of the work. “Due to later assimilation of investments for this project, the investor addressed the government with a proposal to increase the terms of the disbursement of funds and, hence, to shift the deadline for the commissioning of the facility. Today we have met with the investor to discuss the matters,” said Sergei Rumas.

Belarusian builders and German equipment adjusters are working at the site. “We saw that the construction process is proceeding within the schedule and there are no obstacles for the facility to be put into operation within the time limits set by the investor,” said the head of government.

According to him, with the launch of the Nezhinsky potash mining and processing factory, Belarus will become a more significant player on the global potash market. “Potash fertilizers produced here will be sold through a single trader, the Belarusian Potash Company, which will also help the company to become a more significant player on the market,” said Sergei Rumas.

“Potash fertilizers that will be produced at the Nezhinsky mining and processing factory will be of very high quality. The potash fertilizers market is on the rise, and we can see that new contracts are being signed at a higher price. We hope that this investment project will contribute to the further development of the country,” the prime minister said.

According to Chairman of the Board of Directors of Slavkali Mikhail Gutseriyev, the Nezhinsky mining and processing factory will be a modern and efficient enterprise. “Everything goes well. This is such a project when there is no need to hurry or be late. It is better to keep to the schedule to ensure that the design documentation meets construction deadlines and the quality of works is high,” he said. About 2,500 new jobs will be created. The construction of five residential buildings is envisaged in Luban.

The Nezhinsky potash mining and processing factory is being built at the Starobinskoye potash salts deposit. It will be the second company in Belarus to mine potash ore and make potash fertilizers with the output capacity of up to 2 million tonnes of potassium chloride per annum. As part of the investment project one mining facility will be built in addition to a processing plant, a gas turbine power plant the enterprise will need, railway infrastructure, access roads, housing, and other infrastructure.
