MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) - Since the connection to the national power grid, the first unit of the Belarusian NPP has produced 11.7 billion kWh, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said during a meeting with Director General of the Rosatom state corporation Alexey Likhachev, BelTA reports.

Roman Golovchenko recalled that an intergovernmental agreement on the management of spent nuclear fuel was signed on the sidelines of the Atomexpo forum in Sochi in November last year. The relevant procedure for its ratification is currently underway in Belarus.

"As for the joint nuclear power plant project, since our last meeting in August 2022, there have been many positive developments. On 9 November 2022, the first power unit was connected to the grid and is steadily operating at nominal capacity. Last year, 4.69 billion kWh was produced, which enabled our country to save a significant amount of natural gas. Since its connection to the grid [3 November 2020] almost 11.7 billion kWh has been produced," the prime minister said.

Work is underway on the second unit. "All the measures of the physical launch stage are being implemented. We hope that the first connection to the grid will take place in March of this year and will be followed by the power start-up. We are glad that everything is going as planned," the Belarusian head of government said.
