Plans to raise Belarus-Turkey trade to $1bn by year end

MINSK, 9 July (BelTA) – Belarus and Turkey intend to raise the bilateral trade to $1 billion by the end of the year. The plans were discussed as Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich met with Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim in Ankara on 9 July, representatives of the Embassy of Belarus in Turkey told BelTA.

Mikhail Myasnikovich welcomed results of the latest elections in Turkey. He remarked that Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko was one of the first foreign leaders to send a congratulatory address to Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The head of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament also thanked Binali Yildirim for his personal contribution to the advancement of Belarusian-Turkish relations. He noted that the meeting was the third one this year. The fact testifies to the high dynamics in the development of Belarusian-Turkish relations and the dynamics should be preserved.

In turn, the Turkish head of government recalled his visit to Belarus with fondness and confirmed the friendly nature of the relations, which have strategic potential. In particular, Binali Yildirim mentioned the development of trade relations and the possibility of raising Belarus-Turkey trade up to $1 billion by the end of the year. He also mentioned good conditions for Turkish investments in Belarus.

BelTA reported earlier that Binali Yildirim has been nominated for the speaker of the parliament, which election is supposed to take place on 13 July. In line with the amended Constitution the post of the prime minister will be abolished. During the meeting with Mikhail Myasnikovich Binali Yildirim underlined that regardless of his office he will continue working towards supporting and advancing friendly relations with Belarus. He also remarked that Turkey looks forward to the visit of the Belarusian head of state in early 2019.

Earlier Mikhail Myasnikovich also met with Acting Speaker of the Parliament of Turkey Ismail Kahraman. The sides discussed the advancement of interparliamentary cooperation.

The head of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament leads the Belarusian delegation in Turkey to participate in the inauguration of Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
