Pitelino District of Ryazan Oblast, Lepel District of Vitebsk Oblast to cooperate

VITEBSK, 27 July (BelTA) – Pitelino Municipal District (Ryazan Oblast, Russia) and Lepel District (Vitebsk Oblast, Belarus) gave a start to the bilateral social and economic cooperation, Irina Dervoyed, deputy chairperson for social affairs of the Liozno District Executive Committee, told BelTA.

The treaty of friendship and cooperation was signed during a visit of the Pitelino delegation to Liozno District last weekend. "Head of the administration Anatoly Porotikov first visited our district in May this year when we were opening the memorial in the village of Shnitki to commemorate the tank crew which included a native of Pitelino District. That was when we established our first contacts which will be further developed thanks to the agreement. So far we have cooperated mostly with border areas of Russia,” said Irina Dervoyed.

The members of the delegation toured around Liozno District, attended a ceremony to unveil the Recognition Board of the Krynki Rural Council. The artists of the Pitelino community center gave a concert in Liozno, thus making the first step towards the cooperation in culture. The two districts are set to exchange delegations and best practices in the field of education, sports and tourism, healthcare, environmental protection, to establish contacts between public associations and organizations. The Russians are very interested in promoting close cooperation between law-enforcement agencies in combating all types of crime. The parties agreed to organize a new meeting this autumn.
