Participation of Riga business in Minsk City Technopark projects welcomed

MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) - Minsk would like Riga business to take part in projects of Minsk City Technopark, Deputy Chairman of Minsk City Council Zhanna Birich said following the talks with the Riga official delegation led by Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs, BelTA has learned.

Zhanna Birich said that Minsk City Technopark signed agreements with two Latvian partners: Latvian Technological Center and Business Development Incubator in Riga Region. “We would like industrial park to be of interest to the business of Riga. Representatives of Riga companies showed interest in the preferential treatment in the technopark. Therefore, we organized a workshop here to brief them on the changes in our customs legislation, the legal aspects, and standardization issues,” she noted.

She noted that there is a positive trend in the development of contacts between businesses of the two countries. Since the Days of Minsk in Riga in 2014 the number of joint ventures has increased to 146 in Minsk. We see that our business is interested in setting up joint ventures in Russia, and Latvian business in Minsk,” Zhanna Birich said. According to her, the Minsk-based companies ramped up the export of tractors, timber, and food to that region while Riga boosted fish deliveries.

Riga Days are running in Minsk on 18-21 May. The parties already held talks in the Minsk City Hall and a business meeting in Minsk City Technopark. Nils Usakovs together with Latvian and Belarusian businessmen planted a tree in the Alley of Distinguished Guests at the technopark. The Riga Yard pavilion will open at the Minsk Komarovsky Market on 20 May. Chizhovka Arena will host a friendly between the youth ice hockey school Riga and HC Yunost Minsk.

Relations between the two cities were formalized in 1990. In 2014 Riga hosted the Days of Minsk, which happened for the first on the territory of the EU.
