ISLAMABAD, 28 May (BelTA) - Pakistan is interested in Belarus’ experience in the field of space research and biotechnology, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Vladimir Gusakov told media, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Gusakov noted that the NASB has long maintained links with Pakistani colleagues. The parties signed a memorandum on cooperation to identify some areas of cooperation.

"Over the last few days I have had a number of meetings at the Academy of Sciences, the university, the center of agricultural science, biotechnology. I carefully examined the potential of Pakistan's science and education. We have decided to cooperate on a number of areas,” Vladimir Gusakov noted.

According to Vladimir Gusakov, Pakistan is primarily interested in cooperation in the field of space research. "I presented them our satellite capabilities and the photos of the Pakistani territory. They showed a great interest. They are interested in our unmanned aerial vehicles. I think that we will continue to cooperate in this area,” he said.

In addition, Pakistan has taken an interest in working together in the field of biotechnology. "I got familiar with their agricultural, medical, and biotechnology research centers, and I was very impressed by their center of genomics which is fitted with the latest technology," said Vladimir Gusakov.

He said that the parties agreed on cooperation in the field of agricultural engineering, agricultural technologies. Vladimir Gusakov invited Pakistani colleagues to attend the international expo Belagro 2015 which will take place in Belarus soon. "Of course, in science we have advanced much further, and the Pakistani side is willing to work with us and learn from our experience," Vladimir Gusakov noted. He also added that the NASB can enroll a group of Pakistani students, graduate students, undergraduates to train them as scientists.

Soon a group of Belarusian scientists will visit Pakistan to specify future joint projects. Vladimir Gusakov said that he presented about 40 projects to the Pakistani side. "Pakistani colleagues have already expressed their desire to cooperate on some of them. All these days I have worked extensively with my Pakistani colleagues, and every day we take decisions on new areas,” he noted.
