Pakistan eager to set up joint enterprises with Belarus

MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – Pakistan strongly supports the establishment of joint ventures in cooperation with Belarus, Belarusian Deputy Industry Minister Dmitry Korchik said during an online conference hosted by the BelTA website on 24 September.

A session of the joint Belarusian-Pakistani commission for trade and economic cooperation was held in August 2015. Its participants discussed many areas of bilateral cooperation. “All these areas will be reflected in a roadmap that, I believe, will be signed by the prime ministers of the two countries in October. The draft roadmap was prepared by the Belarusian side and sent to Pakistan for approval. It reflects the system of political, economic, and humanitarian cooperation between the two states. The roadmap is aimed at raising the bilateral trade to $1 billion,” Dmitry Korchik explained.

He noted that the project to set up an assembling plant in Pakistan has entered its active stage. A group of Belarusian specialists have gone to Pakistan to hold talks and negotiate the working conditions, the location for the plant, and the application of tariff preferences. “Pakistan shows strong interest in setting up joint enterprises. The Belarusian Industry Minster will visit Pakistan in the near future to discuss all these projects, settle all the problematic issues (if there are any), and sign the roadmap,” Dmitry Korchik said.

He added that Belarus is willing to increase the export of tractors, BelAZ dump trucks, Amkodor road-building machinery, harvesters, buses, MAZ vehicles, and other products to Pakistan.
