Over 3.8m tonnes of grain threshed in Belarus

MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – Belarus has threshed more than 3.8 million tonnes of grain, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

“According to the latest information, Belarus has threshed 3,836,600 tonnes of grain, with the average yield at 37.7 centners per hectare. Last year the average yield at this stage of harvesting was lower, 32 centners per hectare,” the ministry informed.

As of 10 August, harvesting was completed on 78.1% of the area (270,200 hectares) in Brest Oblast, 29.4% (106,400 hectares) in Vitebsk Oblast, 55.2% (191,500 hectares) in Gomel Oblast, 40% (122,200 hectares) in Grodno Oblast, 45.4% (203,600 hectares) in Minsk Oblast, and 37.5% (124,600 hectares) in Mogilev Oblast.

Malt barley was harvested from 27,400 hectares of land (50.2% of the plan), with 116,700 tonnes threshed and the average yield at 42.5 centners per hectare (last year it was 33.6 centners per hectare). Winter rapeseed to be used as grain was gathered in from 276,100 hectares of land or 89.6% of the targeted area, with 728,300 tonnes threshed and the average yield at 26.4 centners per hectare.

Flax was cleared from the area of 33,200 hectares (74.9%).

“In addition to other agricultural works, we have started to prepare the soil for sowing winter rapeseed. Some 236,600 hectares have already been prepared, which is 55.9% of the plan. Winter rapeseed to be used as grain was sown on 13,220 hectares, or 3.12% of the plan,” the ministry said.

As part of the second cutting agricultural workers cut down grass on 805,400 hectares or 78.9% of the plan. Some 688,800 tonnes of hay (72.1% of the target), 11.618 million tonnes of haylage (86.5%), and 318,700 tonnes of silage (1.67%) were produced.
