Myasnikovich suggests promoting Belarus’ exports to India via industrial cooperation

MINSK, 5 May (BelTA) – Belarusian exports to India can be promoted through industrial cooperation, Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Manoj Kumar Bharti on 5 May, BelTA has learned.

“In the first months of 2015 Belarus sold 35 descriptions of goods in India. It is plus ten to what we had last year,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. In his words, it is necessary to expand the sales of Belarusian products, including through industrial cooperation, in particular, in the production of agricultural equipment, especially powerful tractors.

“I have been updated that four documents are ready for signing. About ten more are under India’s consideration,” the speaker said pointing to the agreements that were reached during the official visit of Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei to India on 14-15 April 2015. Mikhail Myasnikovich also drew attention to the roadmap of bilateral relations that Vladimir Makei handed to the Indian side. In February 2015 the Chairman of the Council of the Republic talked about the need to develop such a document. He explained then that the roadmap should include important issues such as political contacts, visits, mutual support at the international level, parliamentary contacts.

According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, India has been considering three proposals from OAO BelAZ. “You produce the same equipment with the carrying capacity of up to 100 tonnes. We do not claim these markets. However, what concerns 44 dump trucks with the carrying capacity of 240 tonnes and 46 dump trucks with the carrying capacity of 190 tonnes, it would be interesting to hear out your suggestions,” he said.

Mikhail Myasnikovich met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Manoj Kumar BhartiThe Speaker stated that on 12 May Belarus will host a meeting to discuss the issues of the Belarusian-Indian cooperation. Not long ago the Belarusian part of the intergovernmental commission of the two countries held a meeting. “It would be great to hold a meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission ahead of the visit of the President of India,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

As was reported, India President Pranab Mukherjee is expected to visit Belarus soon. Receiving Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei in mid April 2015, the Indian leader emphasized the friendly relations with Belarus. Pranab Mukherjee took note of a huge potential in bilateral trade and economic cooperation and the absence of any disagreements in the international arena.

In January-February 2015 the Belarusian-Indian trade totaled $60.6 million, including the Belarusian exports of $36.4 million.
