MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – Trade between Belarus and Algeria increased more than tenfold in January-March 2026, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of Belarus Sergei Rachkov told journalists at the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, where the Algerian parliamentary delegation began its official visit to Belarus, BelTA has learned.
“In January-March 2026, mutual trade grew more than tenfold. We are certainly focusing on establishing joint production facilities. We currently have more than ten major projects underway in mechanical engineering, agriculture, fertilizers, as well as in science and technology,” Sergei Rachkov said.
According to him, the Belarusian side is also interested in seeing more Algerian students come to study in Belarus.
A particularly promising initiative, he noted, is the creation of a joint MAZ truck production facility. Belarusian tractors have been known in Algeria since Soviet times, and the country seeks to establish joint manufacturing.
“Algeria is not only an oil and gas producer but also an agricultural country. Food security is a top priority, and Belarus is already assisting its Algerian partners in this area. Mechanization of agriculture is therefore among the key tasks being addressed by both Algeria and Belarus,” Sergei Rachkov said.
According to him, Belarus will continue offering support in areas where it has strong expertise, experience and interest in promoting its products and technologies.
Sergei Rachkov recalled that the roadmap for bilateral cooperation, signed during President Aleksandr Lukashenko’s visit to Algeria, contains numerous directions and activities that are being successfully implemented.
As it was reported earlier, a parliamentary delegation from the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, led by Speaker of the National People’s Assembly of the Algerian parliament Ibrahim Boughali, has arrived in Belarus for the first time in the history of Belarusian-Algerian relations. The official visit, taking place at the invitation of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, will run on 23-26 May. The program includes meetings with the leadership of the House of Representatives, visits to industrial and agricultural enterprises, and tours of cultural and historical sites.
