More hi-tech parks to be set up in Belarus

MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) – Plans are in place to set up hi-tech parks in Baranovichi, Borisov, Bobruisk, Orsha and Molodechno, Chairman of Belarus’ State Committee on Science and Technology Aleksandr Shumilin told a press conference in Minsk on 21 January, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is actively developing its innovative infrastructure. At the moment it boasts 16 hi-tech parks and nine technology transfer centers. Hi-tech parks have been set up in all the provincial centers of our country, and also in Pinsk, Novopolotsk, Gorki and Lyakhovichi District. Now we are planning to set up such parks in Baranovichi, Borisov, Bobruisk, Orsha and Molodechno. In January 2020 we made a decision to grant the status of an innovative infrastructure subject to Baranovichi State University as a technology transfer center,” said Aleksandr Shumilin.

In 2019 the Minsk city hi-tech park launched a new engineering and robotics school. The Polytechnic science and technology park of the Belarusian National Technical University with the help from the Belarusian State University of Physical Education has set up a scientific and educational cluster called Transmission Technology in Sports aimed to provide scientific and analytical support to elite sports and conduct interdisciplinary studies of new means and methods to improve athletes’ performance.

More than 500 jobs were created in Belarusian hi-tech parks in 2019. The total staff number exceeds 2,500 professionals.
