Mogilev Oblast, China’s Henan Province keen to expand investment cooperation

MogilevMOGILEV, 19 July (BelTA) – Mogilev Oblast Governor Vladimir Domanevsky met with a delegation of Henan Province in Mogilev on 19 July, BelTA has learned.

According to Vladimir Domanevsky, the cooperation between the regions and between Mogilev and Henan’s capital Zhengzhou has been developing rapidly since 2003 when Henan Province and Mogilev Oblast established close contacts. The meeting of the Belarusian and Chinese leaders in May and the agreements achieved between Belarus and China gave a new impetus to their bilateral relations. “We have all the opportunities to reach a new level of collaboration, from trade and economic interaction towards industrial cooperation, economic investment, and setting up high-technology ventures to manufacture competitive products and export them to third countries,” Mogilev Oblast governor said.

He told the Chinese guests about the main avenues of possible investment cooperation in agriculture, processing industry, mechanical engineering, rolling stock manufacturing, construction, and other fields. He put special focus on the possibilities of carrying out projects in FEZ Mogilev and Mogilev Oblast that has vast free land plots. The sides are considering the possibility of establishing a joint venture to produce beef taking into account China’s preferences and requirements. This beef will then be exported to China.

Both sides expressed substantial interest in developing business and educational tourism as well as regular tourism. They pointed out enormous potential that the two regions have in this field and said they will pay special attention to cooperation between youth.

“The visit of our delegation to Mogilev Oblast is a step towards strengthening our relations. Our main task at the negotiations was to explore new possibilities and enable new conditions for the all-round development of interregional cooperation in future. This is primarily about mutually beneficial economic cooperation, developing transport logistics, expanding cooperation in culture, education, and tourism,” a Chinese official underlined. He thanked the governor for the warm welcome and the organization of food supplies to Henan Province. “We would like to see more Belarusian products in our market. They are in demand and needed as we have high population density,” he noted.

The Chinese delegation is expected to explore the capacities and capabilities of FEZ Mogilev and visit a number of leading industrial companies.
