Mogilev-based Domochay bakery starts selling into United States

MOGILEV, 29 December (BelTA) – The Domochay company has started selling frozen bakery and confectionery products directly into the United States, BelTA learned from Domochay Director General Natalya Podlesnykh.

“We have earlier exported some pilot batches of our products through an intermediary in Panama. Now, as we have a solid partner in the USA, we have shipped an assortment of goods in a container. We have also reached a preliminary agreement to supply our products to the USA every month,” the director general said.

In her words, the US market holds many prospects since there are many immigrants from post-Soviet countries. “The Americans themselves have also commended the taste, health benefits, and high quality of Belarusian-made products. For instance, frozen bread is easy to store and cook. It also gets a taste of fresh baked goods just in five minutes,” Natalya Podlesnykh remarked.

Domochay has lately been paying close attention to export diversification. Although Russia remains the major importer of Domochay-made products, the share of other countries is gradually growing and now reaches 45% in the total volume of exports. In 2017, the company boosted the export to Israel and Azerbaijan. Domochay is also engaged in negotiations on branching out into Germany and entering the enormous EU market through this country. “Such an active export policy gave a massive boost to the company’s exports, which surged by 38% in January-November 2017. There is, however, still a lot of potential to be exploited,” the executive noted.

The company was founded in 1927 under the name Mogilev Bread Factory. The Mogilev Oblast Bakery Manufacturing Association was set up in 1972 to modernize the structure and concentration of production of the BSSR Food Industry Ministry. In 2001, the association was renamed Mogilevkhlebprom. The enterprise was transformed into the Domochay Bakery and Confectionery Company in 2013, which now employs over 2,500 people.
