MINSK, 15 September (BelTA) – Minsk will host the Eurasian mining and geology forum on 2-4 February 2016 for the first time, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.

“The Eurasian mining and geology forum will be a large-scale platform for discussing ways to coordinate subsurface resources management in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU). The agenda of the forum includes issues of international cooperation in geological exploration, state expert review, and education policy. The participants of the event will also talk over the challenges and opportunities for the mining industry in the context of integration processes in the EEU. Kazakhstani geologists have already confirmed their participation,” the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection noted.

The ministry said that Chairman of the Committee for Geology and Subsoil Use of Kazakhstan Bazarbai Nurabayev accepted the invitation to participate in the forum during his meeting with Belarusian Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andrei Kovkhuto. “The meeting took place ahead of the second session of the CIS Interstate Ecological Council currently hosted by Astana. Andrei Kovkhuto is taking part in the session. He has already delivered a report on the development of cooperation between the CIS member countries in environmental protection and presented an analysis of the legal framework for environmental protection developed in the CIS. The minister also held bilateral meetings with representatives of the ministries of environment of Tajikistan, Russia, and Armenia,” the press service of the Belarusian ministry added.

The agenda of the session features many issues, including the election of a new chairperson. Besides, a decision has already been made to set up a working group on the core activities of the council. The participants of the session also discussed the draft action plan for the CIS Interstate Ecological Council for the period until 2017.
