Minsk hosts CIS ministerial consultations on arms control

MINSK, 11 June (BelTA) – The CIS ministerial consultations on arms control issues took place in Minsk on 10 June, BelTA learned from the Department of Humanitarian Cooperation, General Political and Social Issues of the CIS Executive Committee.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and the CIS Executive Committee.

The consultations were constructive. The parties exchanged views on a wide range of issues related to arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation, including nuclear disarmament, prevention of an arms race in outer space, co-operation in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, biological security, the political and military dimension of the OSCE and conventional arms control in Europe.

The consultations made it possible to outline ways of deepening cooperation between the CIS states in arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation.
