Minsk, China’s Shenzhen to strengthen cooperation in innovation

MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) – Chairman of the Minsk City Hall Andrei Shorets met with the delegation of China’s Shenzhen on 10 June. The sides discussed the ways to intensify mutually beneficial Minsk-Shenzhen cooperation in innovative development, BelTA has learned.

“In 2014 we signed a twinning agreement with Shenzhen and reached some agreements on cooperation in different fields. I would like us to break new ground and launch specific projects. We have not used the full potential of our relations so far,” Andrei Shorets remarked.

For his part, Deputy Chief of the Shenzhen Party Committee Li Huanan highlighted that Minsk and Shenzhen are, in fact, pretty much alike. Both cities are major industrial centers comprising hi-tech manufactures, scientific institutions, and higher education institutions. “I believe that Minsk-Shenzhen cooperation in innovation has a great potential. We need to find out the areas where our interests meet and employ the possibilities of the Belarus-China industrial park Great Stone,” he added.

Minsk has signed 16 cooperation agreements with the Chinese cities, among them three twinning ones with Beijing, Changchun, and Shenzhen. Representatives of the twin cities have been invited to attend the celebrations marking Minsk’s 950th anniversary.

Andrei Shorets once again invited the Chinese guests to partake in the celebrations, review a specific plan of action in trade, economy, and investment, and discuss the ways to intensify cooperation in culture and other fields. As an example he cited some joint projects that were already carried out. These include the construction of the Beijing hotel and the Lebyazhy residential compound in Minsk. Moreover, at the moment the Chinese corporation CITIC Group is constructing a hotel and business compound with a tennis center in Belarus’ capital.
