Minister opines on Belarus-Pakistan cooperation prospects in agriculture

Minister opines on Belarus-Pakistan cooperation prospects in agriculture

MINSK, 11 April (BelTA) – Belarus'  Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov told BelTA how Belarus and Pakistan can ramp up cooperation in agriculture.

“Our cooperation with Pakistan is on the rise now. Last year, the sales of our products on the Pakistani market expanded by 36% over 2023. Of course, there is room for growth. In fact, our Pakistani counterparts are interested in purchasing our products,” said Yuri Gorlov.

The minister noted that Pakistan buys baby food from Belarus, among other products. Last year, Belarus sold $1.9 million worth of baby food on the Pakistani market. This year, this figure is expected to grow to $2.3 million. “Thus, we are increasing our supplies,” he emphasized.

According to Yuri Gorlov, Pakistan is considering buying more skimmed milk powder and condensed milk from Belarus.

“We also cooperate in veterinary medicine. Our BelVitunipharm enterprise produces vaccines. And we would like to sell our veterinary drugs in Pakistan. This year, we will send the first trial batches of vaccines to this country,” said Yuri Gorlov.

The minister added that a delegation from Pakistan recently visited the Belarusian Machine Testing Station: “They wanted to study our best practices in equipment testing and set up a similar enterprise in Pakistan. We are ready to assist in implementing these plans.”

All in all, he noted, Belarus is ready to help Pakistan improve its agricultural industry. Belarus can supply equipment, design various facilities, and provide scientific support for growing crops.

A reminder, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif held talks in narrow and expanded formats in Minsk on 11 April. The Belarusian head of state, in particular, called agriculture and related industries the drivers of bilateral cooperation.
