MINSK, 6 January (BelTA) – Belarus is creating all the necessary conditions for the development of container transport business. The country has become a reliable link in logistics routes to China. In recent years, the number of container trains from Belarus to China has grown tenfold, Belarus’ Transport and Communications Minister Aleksei Lyakhnovich said in an interview with the Economy of Belarus Magazine.
"If in 2021 about 150 container trains carrying Belarusian export products were dispatched, then in 2024 the figure exceeded 1,500," the minister said. "Belarus is actively participating in China’s Belt and Road Initiative. Belarusian Railways is capable of handling 30 container trains daily, with a route speed of about 1,000 km per day."
To service the container flow within the country, a network of transport and logistics centers and freight terminals has been established. There are also reserves for a multiple increase in the volume of transit rail transport in terms of terminal processing and train throughput.
