Makei: Belarus' draft export promotion program focuses on specific sectors, regions

MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) – The draft national export support and promotion program for 2016-2020 (Export of Belarus) focuses on specific sectors, regions, and enterprises, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told journalists on 8 February, BelTA has learned.

The draft program for 2016-2020 is substantially different from its predecessors. “The document focuses on specific sectors, regions, and enterprises,” Vladimir Makei noted.

The draft program has been posted on the website of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for public discussion. The ministry expects to consider all the proposals and prepare a comprehensive and effective document that would help boost the Belarusian economy.

Vladimir Makei stated that last year Belarus failed to meet the export targets. However, the country had a foreign trade surplus and stepped up its exports to new and promising markets. “Particularly good results were achieved in trade with the countries visited by the Belarusian President or whose leaders Alexander Lukashenko met with. The number of economic entities involved in export activities has increased to 300,” the minister stressed. Belarusian government officials were tasked with promoting exports in specific countries and regions. This practice has proven effective and will be further improved.
