Lukashenko: We need more facilities like Minsk City Technopark

MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) – Technology parks play an important role in the development of the manufacturing sector, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he visited the Minsk City Technopark on 16 January, BelTA learned.

“We need more facilities like this. We might gradually expand these operations tapping into the world's best practices. If the motorcycle business takes off, we will help them build new production facilities and increase the output,” Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked.

“But they [the manufacturers in the technology park] are starting small. If it does not work – not much money will be lost. This is a great thing. We should have more centers like this,” the head of state emphasized.

Later, in a conversation with the staff of Motovelo Plant and the technology park, Aleksandr Lukashenko unveiled plans to set up about five technology parks in Minsk over the next five years. “We have plans to launch another five or so technoparks in Minsk. Such parks will be created step by step. We will develop high-tech production at the so-called Horizont plant. There will be less hardware and more intelligence there,” the president said.
