Lukashenko wants more charging stations built in Belarus

Lukashenko wants more charging stations built in Belarus

MINSK, 3 June (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed to build more electric vehicle charging stations in Belarus as he heard out a report on the development of the Belarusian energy sector on 3 June. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Nazarov, Belarus President’s Aide Aleksandr Kosinets, and Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich, BelTA has learned.

Belarus has been developing electric transport and appropriate infrastructure for a while, the president pointed out. According to him, this area holds great promise. “Nowadays, the entire world is switching to electric cars. People are fed up with breathing polluted air, they want our planet to be clean. Otherwise we will be doomed,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “This is why electric cars hold great promise. I instruct you to build more charging stations,” he added.

Some citizens want to have charging stations right by their houses, the head of state noted. “So be it: you pay, we build. But this should be reasonable, we should not profit from it excessively. We will make profit later, thanks to selling electricity. We should build more charging stations: both private (for those who want them) and public ones. This work is already underway,” the president said.

So far, there are 450 electric vehicle charging stations in Belarus. By the end of the year, there will be 600 such stations. “This is great, but we should not stop at this,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed. “I am sure that we should offer an option to build charging stations in small towns, agro-towns, perhaps, even at private estates for those who want it,” he noted.
