Lukashenko views sanctions as incentives for export diversification

MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – Western sanctions create new incentives to expand the geography of Belarusian exports, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said during a meeting with the heads of Belarusian diplomatic missions, BelTA has learned.

"As for ambassadors in non-Western countries, the government and the real sector of the economy, I would like to reiterate what I have said many times before: forget about sanctions and other scare stories from the West. They don’t exist for us and should not be used as an excuse for failure. If the EU imposes another ban, it will only mean more incentives to look elsewhere to sell our products," the head of state said.

He noted that this was achieved across a very broad range of products. The strategic task of redirecting $14 billion in export flows from Western and Ukrainian markets to friendly nations is being successfully accomplished. In 2024, our exports of domestic goods and services hit nearly $50 billion.

"The truth is, we produce goods people need - of adequate quality at fair prices. This means they will be always in demand. But this necessitates tactical flexibility and constant update of our foreign trade policy," the head of state remarked.
