MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – I am ready to consider a proposal to consolidate all venture resources under control of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), Belarusian President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the government conference held on 21 November to discuss the development of the domestic science and the NASB performance, BelTA has learned.
“For many years, there has been talk about so-called venture financing, which, allegedly, is not developing in our country at all. Let me explain: these are direct budget funds for the development of a startup, which may not even be successful,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
“Now that we have gathered here and discuss enhancing the role of the Academy of Sciences, I am ready to consider a proposal to consolidate all venture resources under control of the Academy of Sciences. Think about whether it is necessary or not, and, as agreed with Aleksandr Genrikhovich [Turchin, Belarusian Prime Minister], submit your proposals to the government, and the prime minister will report,” the president noted. “Starting from tomorrow, this is the responsibility of Vladimir Stepanovich [Karanik]. He is a statesman. And in a year or two, we will see if anything has developed in this area, if you make this decision.” At the same time, the head of state warned against corruption and cronyism: “I perfectly understand the right to take risks, but you will answer for blatant theft.”
