Lukashenko praises Belarus’ bumper grain harvest this year

MINSK, 18 November (BelTA) - For the first time Belarus has produced more than a tonne of grain per capita this year. We must keep this momentum, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a ceremony to honor best agricultural workers in Minsk on 18 November, BelTA has learned.

"For the first time in history, we produced more than a tonne of grain per capita. This is a success, which, I am sure, even the largest states have not achieved," the head of state emphasized.

However, we cannot stop here, the Belarusian leader is convinced. After all, nothing extraordinary has been done to achieve such high results in agriculture. What was required was touch discipline. Some complained about the pressure from the president, but it was worth it. Great results were obtained.

At the same time, Alexander Lukashenko expressed regret that the country did not gather such a grain harvest last year, when it was very much in demand. "Due to the sanctions, grain in the post-Soviet space has no way out," the Belarusian leader said. He recalled how he had previously asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to put aside some grain for Belarus, just in case. The Russian head of state agreed to put aside twice as much for Belarus.

This year, Belarus was able to harvest an excellent harvest, but as they say, first step is the hardest, the president said. "We have taken this step. And we must stay at this level," he concluded.
