MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko sees no reason to set up overlapping production facilities in Russia and advocates cooperation in the manufacturing industry. These matters were discussed at the highest-level meeting in Sochi on 21 September, BelTA has learned.

“This pertains to well-known issues with mechanical engineering companies. We discussed that in detail during the one-on-one meeting. It was emphasized that there is no point for us to set up the same kind of productions, in particular in Russia,” the president said at a meeting in Minsk to review the recent Sochi talks.

He noted that if there is a company like BelAZ in Belarus, then why to set up a similar enterprise to produce heavy-duty vehicles in Russia. “There is no need for that. An emphasis was made on efforts to promote cooperation, like it was before. Total understanding with the Russian president,” the head of state said.

“The big problem is that we work poorly there. We still do not work well enough with our counterparts – minister with minister, vice-premier with vice-premier,” the president noted.

“We also discussed equal economic terms, the so-called vehicle recycling tax,” the head of state said sharing the details of the Sochi talks.
