Lukashenko instructs to work out payment mechanism amid sanctions

MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – We need to work out a mechanism of making payments under sanctions in the near future, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media after visiting BelOMO Holding Company in Minsk on 26 August, BelTA has learned.

“The problem is not even about supplies. There is a minor problem with the transfer of money. They are bandits. You know they had goods delivered and are ready to pay for them, but some banks block these transfers and payments. We will solve this problem. One cannot brush sanctions aside and say: ‘You know, everything is peachy keen’. We feel the impact of sanctions on Belarus. Our economy is based on the production of goods - footwear, clothing, food,” the head of state said.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the products of BelOMO Holding Company are in demand. “The only problem is that the logistics chains have been disrupted and this pertains, first of all, to the payments for the supplied products. We will solve this problem,” the Belarusian leader said.

He stated that he instructed to work out corresponding measures to solve the problems related to BelOMO within the next week. “I'll see if they are capable to do it. I'm sure they are. You know, money can be carried in suitcases to make payments,” the president said.

The president praised the company’s successes and stressed the need to move forward: “This enterprise has been under sanctions all its life. Just take a look at the quality of products. World class. I just urge them to move forward and get ahead of others.”
